The Homebush Bay Drive, Australia Avenue and Underwood Road roundabout at Homebush is getting a quick upgrade while work on the long-term solution is being finalised.
Safety improvements will benefit motorists by improving traffic flow and road safety at the roundabout and Homebush Bay Drive off ramps, especially during peak periods and special events.
Motorists will benefit from the installation of new traffic loop detectors, roundabout operating signs and advanced warning signs at the Homebush Bay Drive off-ramps.
Pedestrians will be able to cross the busy roundabout more safely with the relocation of the pedestrian crossing on the western corner of the roundabout further north by approximately two to three metres and installation of a pedestrian fence.
The safety upgrades are expected to commence on Sunday 22 September and take approximately three months to complete, weather permitting.
Work will be carried out for up to five shifts per week between 8pm and 5am, with no work taking place on Saturdays or public holidays.

Donna Davis MP, State Member for Parramatta said:
“I’m pleased that we can provide these quick but effective safety improvements at one of Sydney’s busiest intersections while the long-term solution is being finalised.
“We have listened to the community, taken on board their feedback, and are in the final stages of developing the ultimate design.
“We know the intersection will see more traffic use in the years to come as Sydney Olympic Park and the surrounding area continues to grow.
“The Homebush Bay Drive and Australia Avenue intersection upgrade project will ensure that our road network keeps up with this growth while improving pedestrian safety and motorist satisfaction.”
Sally Sitou MP, Federal Member for Reid said:
“We know the frustrations residents feel about the DFO roundabout at Homebush Bay Drive and Australia Avenue. The traffic is terrible on weekends, during peak hour and around major events – making it extraordinarily disruptive for residents.
“For years, Liberal governments have been talking about fixing the traffic mayhem caused by this roundabout. Residents have been patiently waiting for a solution.
“The Commonwealth and NSW governments are committed to providing the community with an upgrade to this important intersection, which will improve pedestrian safety, connectivity between Homebush and Sydney Olympic Park, and congestion.
“The community will be updated on the intersection upgrade project as soon as further information is available.”
