The NSW Government is proud to welcome 110 new Probationary Constables to the NSW Police Force.
Class 363 attestated at the Goulburn Police Academy on Friday August 16 and have begun work at their new home stations. The new officers are undertaking 12 months of on-the-job training with the rank of Probationary Constable.
Six new Probationary Constables have been allocated to Police Area Commands covering the Parramatta electorate.
They will undertake general duties police work and gain valuable experience working alongside their seasoned colleagues.
Class 363 is made up of students from diverse backgrounds including New Zealand, Iraq, Kuwait, England and Fiji. Seven recruits are First Nations peoples.
These new officers are a welcome boost to local policing and reaffirm the Government’s commitment to strengthen our frontline services across the state.
Last year, the NSW Government made the historic announcement that Student Police Officers will be paid to study at the Goulburn Police Academy.
Student Police Officers will receive a total salary of approximately $30,984 over the 16-week study period, including super and award-based allowances.
To boost police numbers, the Professional Mobility program was introduced to incentivise officers from other Australian and New Zealand jurisdictions to join the NSW Police Force while retaining their equivalent rank.
The NSW Government has also launched the "You Should Be a Cop in Your Hometown" program, ensuring that those who wish to return to regional NSW are stationed there after graduating from the Academy.
To attract school-leavers, the Government recently lowered the age requirement for recruits from 19 to 18.
