Telopea Housing Estate Update

Telopea Housing Estate Update Main Image

Important Information

Update from Minister for Housing and Homlessness, Rose Jackson MLC.

25 September 2024

Hello,

My name is Rose Jackson and I am the Minister for Housing and Homelessness.

I wanted to write to you to give an update on our plans for renewing and upgrading the Telopea Estate.

It is clear to me that the former government’s plans for Telopea have dragged on and have stalled. That is why we are taking action, right now, by ending the contract with Frasers and charting a new approach to fixing up and upgrading the Telopea estate.

Here is the plan:

Fixing up the Three Sisters
We’re taking action to address vacant properties. The Wade Street towers, more commonly known as the ‘Three Sisters’, will be refurbished to provide good-quality, modern public homes. This is a temporary arrangement as we work towards a long-term solution. Our priority is to ensure more people have access to safe, secure homes, rather than leaving these properties empty and unused. To be clear, no residents will be required to relocate while these refurbishments take place.

Polding Place development
We are getting on with the job of redeveloping Polding Place, we will be in touch to update you on our progress.

More building work is starting
Construction is expected to commence soon at 20-22A Evans Road and 18-22 Sophie Street, Telopea. These sites will be transformed into 48 new public homes, which will provide new modern public housing.

Next steps
While we work on bringing the Three Sisters and other homes back into use, we are exploring the next stages of the overall Telopea Estate redevelopment. It is my commitment to you that we will work closely with you and the community on our plans and how we can build good quality public homes for people who need them.

As always if you have any questions please do get in touch with my office or the Homes NSW team. I am really open to your feedback and would be really interested in hearing it.
