About Parramatta

About Parramatta Main Image

The name ‘Parramatta’, originated from the Burramattagal people, a clan of the Dharug nation, who have occupied these lands for over 60,000 years. It is at the geographical centre of greater Sydney, as rich in history as it is in cultural diversity.

Parramatta has the largest population of any electorate in New South Wales. 63.8% of households in Parramatta speak a language other than English demonstrating our community’s strong ties to nations all around the globe. Our diversity is our key strength and central to the prosperity of New South Wales.

From Westmead in the west to Wentworth Point in the east, the Parramatta electorate includes the suburbs of Camellia, Clyde, Dundas, Ermington, Harris Park, Newington, North Parramatta, Parramatta, Rosehill, Rydalmere, Silverwater, Sydney Olympic Park, Wentworth Park and Westmead.

The Parramatta state electorate is home to vital services and venues that support Greater Western Sydney including the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Parramatta Park, Riverside Theatres, Accor Stadium, Blaxland Riverside Park and so much more.

Parramatta is the beating heart of Greater Sydney.
