Monday, 13 October 2025

Construction of the new $540 million Integrated Mental Health Complex at the Westmead Health Precinct has reached a significant milestone, with the completion of the first major concrete pour for the project.

The concrete will form the foundation for the new state-of-the-art health facility, marking the next phase of construction as the building begins to take shape.

Approximately 1,300 cubic metres of concrete will be used in this first stage to support the ground floor, which will be delivered to the site by 220 concrete trucks. In total, more than 122,000 cubic metres of concrete, equivalent to 48 Olympic sized swimming pools, will be poured over the life of the project.

This milestone marks the first of five major concrete pours that will take place over the coming months, which will form the structural foundation of the new 10-storey mental health facility.

The Integrated Mental Health Complex will be the largest mental health facility in NSW, delivering high-quality, contemporary care and support in purpose-built therapeutic environments.

Work is progressing well on site, with two 120-metre-high tower cranes recently installed on site to support construction, now prominent landmarks at the Westmead Health Precinct.

The new facility will include:

  • Acute mental health beds, with beds for youth, adolescents, adults, older persons and people living with eating disorders

  • Mental health intensive care and high dependency units

  • Sub and non-acute mental health beds

  • Multidisciplinary ambulatory and outpatient services.

The Westmead Integrated Mental Health Complex will support almost 1000 direct jobs with the potential for supporting thousands of indirect jobs throughout the life of the project.

Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed in 2027.

Donna Davis, Member for Parramatta said:

“This milestone is a major step forward in delivering one of the most significant mental health infrastructure projects in the State's history.

“Located at the Westmead Health Precinct, the new state of the art health facility will be connected to Westmead Hospital to provide better integrated between mental health and other clinical services and facilities.

“It will help address the growing demand for mental health services and enable the delivery of contemporary, best-practice care for Western Sydney communities.”

“It’s pleasing to see the new health facility take shape bringing us one step closer to transforming the way we deliver care in Parramatta.”
